Matix Accounts, the Knutsford-based bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll specialist, has been acquired with Helen Rogers and fellow Director, Rebecca Mallon maintaining a shareholding, and continuing to be actively involved in the leadership of the firm. This is part of a strategic investment to strengthen the long-term resilience of the company and ensure continuity for clients and staff. Founders, Helen and Rebecca Mallon completed the sale on Thursday 02 April 2026.
The majority shareholding is now held by the TMF Acquisitions, a company led by Luke Farren and Adam Ginns, Chris West and Joshua Ridler.
Talking about the partnership, Matix Accounts Founder, Helen Rogers, said: “Matix has grown steadily and successfully, and this decision is about protecting that success for the long term. Rebecca and I are staying fully involved, the business will continue in the same format, and our clients will receive the same high-quality, personal service that they always have.”
The decision to seek external partnership arose during a period of personal reflection for Rogers, prompted by serious family illness. While circumstances later changed, the process highlighted the importance of formal succession planning and operational resilience, as she explains: “As founders, we asked ourselves what the disaster-recovery plan would be if one of us were unable to work. This partnership allows us to put a strong structure around the business, ensuring continuity for our clients, our team and the work we care deeply about.”
Matix will continue to operate as a centre of excellence for bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll, with no immediate plans to change its service offering or client model. Clients will continue to use their own accountants for year-end and tax work, with the additional option of Layers Accountancy, founded by Adam Ginns, as a recommended firm.
The new directors bring a wealth of complementary experience across practice operations, technology adoption, mergers and acquisitions, and growth strategy, and felt like the perfect cultural fit for Matix.
Founder of The Modern Firm and former Head of Operations for Cooper Parry’s Tech & High Growth division, Cheltenham-based Luke Farren brings over a decade of experience across advisory, operational leadership and digital transformation within the accounting sector.
A London-based growth-focused operator and investor, and Co-Founder of TMF Acquisitions, Chris West has an impressive track record of acquiring, integrating and scaling SME service businesses through KPI-led performance management.
Adam Ginns and Joshua Ridler are founders of Layers Accountancy in Cheltenham, a modern accountancy practice based in Cheltenham, built on the belief that the accountant’s role must evolve.
Rogers added: “We met with seven interested parties and took our time choosing the one we felt best aligned with Matix’s values, clients and team. Luke, Adam, Josh and Chris are entrepreneurial, thoughtful and people-focused — qualities that matter greatly to us.”
It’s not the first time that Rogers has invested in people for the good of the firm. Taking on Rebecca as a business partner in 2018, was arguably the best decision she could have made.
“People told me not to get a business partner, but I went ahead anyway and am so glad I did. Not only did I get the best business partner I could’ve asked for, but I also gained a friend. I couldn’t have built the business in the direction it was going without Rebecca and her impressive skill set.
“The key to a good business relationship is communication,” she believes. “Not only do we have lots of walking meetings, but we have the same moral and ethical approach to our team, and we care about the business and our clients’ successes too. Together, we’ve created a fun, nurturing place to work and are extremely proud of our growing team.”
Looking ahead, Matix Accounts will continue to invest in best-in-class software and systems, while maintaining the human-centred approach valued by clients.
“This marks the start of a new chapter for Matix, one that supports our team, reassures our clients, and positions the business securely for the future,” Rogers added. “It’s an exciting time for us, and one filled with opportunity for Rebecca and I to continue what we’ve built and love, with an impressive support structure around us.
“What will never change is our belief that every client matters and that great bookkeeping is built on trust, care and strong relationships.”
